ABOUT AIR SAFETY AUSTRALIA
OBJECTIVES OF AIR SAFETY AUSTRALIA
- To increase the safety of aviation in
Australia
- To influence legislation in a manner which
improves safety, increases flexibility, and
reduces costs
- To provide a well-researched,
rationally-presented, forcefully argued voice
for pilots in Parliament
- To give Parliament confidence that what ASA
presents to Parliament as the view of
Australia's pilots really IS the view of
Australia's pilots
- To work with government, CASA and
AirServices to communicate the benefits of
proposed legislative changes so that genuinely
beneficial change is welcomed, not resisted
- To defend the right of any pilot who is
accused of an offence to be tried by a Court
if he/she wishes
- To co-operate with other aviation
organisations pursuing the same goals as AIR
SAFETY AUSTRALIA

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
- Do I have to leave AOPA, or the SAAA, or
the AUF if I join AIR SAFETY AUSTRALIA?
Absolutely not. All AIR SAFETY AUSTRALIA
provides is representation to Parliament. We
do not provide any of the other many benefits
of organisations like AOPA, the SAAA, the AUF
and so on. So you should stay with any other
organisations you belong to. You may wish to
tell your other organisations that you do not
want them to provide Parliamentary
Representation, but there is no reason at all
to terminate your membership. By joining AIR
SAFETY AUSTRALIA you will greatly reduce the
risk that the leaders of other organisations
will secretly take positions which are against
the interests of their members. The positions
AIR SAFETY AUSTRALIA takes are always taken
openly, with the full knowledge of members,
and (time permitting) after consultation with
members. AIR SAFETY AUSTRALIA is an open
organisation.
JOIN US - YOU'VE NOTHING TO LOSE, AND YOU'LL
GAIN TOP-FLIGHT REPRESENTATION
- AIR SAFETY AUSTRALIA does not guarantee
results - but our people have a superb track
record of obtaining results in the Parliament.
We have high skill levels, sound judgement,
and boundless energy. You only have to look at
what our people have achieved since June 2000
on aviation legislation, namely
- Flight Manuals - got a 2-year extension
in the life of the Aussie Flight Manual
- Aircraft Registration changes - got the
proposed changes disallowed in the Senate
We do not say these were due to our people
alone - they were not - but we do say that
without the initiative and involvement of our
team neither would have happened.
What's more, we point out that none of the old
Aviation Representative organisations opposed
those changes. The only old organisation which
took part at all was AOPA - and it supported
CASA on both issues. We beat CASA and AOPA
combined. This says a lot about AOPA's lack of
judgement (in supporting CASA against its
members) and its ineffectiveness (can't even
win when allied with CASA).
- AIR SAFETY AUSTRALIA does guarantee to keep
you informed by fax, internet, and e-mail.
- AIR SAFETY AUSTRALIA does guarantee that we
won't do a Neville Chamberlain on you. We
guarantee that the only way CASA will buy us
off is by providing benefits not for a few
individuals but for our members as a whole.
